KALYAANA SAPADU-The wedding feast

I had once been to a wedding where there were different counters for different cuisines. This is a common thing in the present generation though. There were men sitting at wearing turbans at the chat counter serving chat. Believe me, invariably in all the weddings, the pani puri is a sure flop. But in this reception, the caterer had appointed servers of all the counters with the dresses that match the cuisine they served, for the Chinese section, there were people with chingy eyes. And all the counters had a lavish background setup. The whole ambience was an impressive waste of money. Why do I say this? Because there were barely 200 people to attend the reception.
My mom had once read out an article from mangayar malar,a tamil magazine that in some wedding apparently there was a “PAPPU MAMMU STALL” that served food for infants and kids. I then happened to attend another wedding where they had a stall serving popcorns and cotton candies and stuff like that for toddlers and kids. I then happened to encounter a hot discussion among the elders with my mother also participating in it, and it kindled in me a silly, weird and whacky idea.
This discussion happened in my cousin’s wedding where the elders were discussing about their pre and post lunch medicines, and sharing some with the people who dint carry theirs’. Their talk included their reasons for starting to have those medicines, and how their health gets affected on having a wedding feast. Each of them had separate medicines of different potencies for different problems. This sure didn’t impress me. Because whenever elders gather, they keep talking about supplements, or medicines or restrictions.
After this discussion, is when I began to think of a new stall. I was first thinking of a new display beside the salad –platter section. And then I thought of a stall with a doctor wearing a lab coat, giving away medicines. (Got to get professional in this counter you see.)like how the pappu mammu stall impressed the kids, the doctor stall would impress these elders, by giving away medicines for BP, diabetes, allergy, cholesterol, so that you don’t actually start supplying oil in retail for what would have accumulated in the “feast”.
Believe me; this thing will surely come sometime soon. In someone’s wedding or the other. I will definitely not have this kind of pomp in my wedding which is a really long way to go from now.
All certain done, none of the caterers care to cook well using les oil, ghee, unnecessary added flavors /colors. We were having breakfast together in my cousin’s wedding before the muhurtham, and the guy served us something after idlis. It was hot, oily, and looked exactly like molaga podi (a condiment had mixed in oil with idlis.) wondering what it was, suspiciously I tasted it singly. It was not oil, but was ghee; not molaga podi, but almond halwa!!!! The guy had added red-orange colour to it that made it look exactly like molaga podi. After everyone had ruined their taste buds of having idli with halwa, another man comes serving the actual molaga podi.
It counts on how you serve food. My mom always tells me that serving is an art.

yeah i accept that most of the caterers dont care about the after effects. all they want is money and for the money they get they give some food which is more oily and wanted to satisfy their clients that they have made a rich dish!!

and your point regarding medicinal stall, its not possible to get all kinds of medicine in the stall, some may be allergic to some medicines. they mightnot be knowing that only their family doctors know it. with out knowing taking some medicine may give side effects.

but yeah different thinking! nice write up!! keep it up :)

ahem.. a doctor will be made to sit there and do the job. ille na guest oda vidhi, he/she has to go to their family physician only.
