TEN DAYS TO EAT

today i am reminded of hellen keller who wrote an essay "THREE DAYS TO SEE".
that poor lady was who was deprived of the ability to see. she had written about her deepest feelings about the importance of sight.

Today i tell about the importance of taste. I might be a good cook, but all the people of the world irrespective of their ability of cook deserve a good meal. If i have learnt how to cook, I owe the credits to my father who ordered me to make my own food to suit my palate. And why i demanded good food for my palate was because of my cook who made intangible and inedible food.

After navrathri, the couple went out for a vacation to their relative's wedding. For these 10 days, me and my mom took charge of the whole house. I would buy milk, make coffee, we would sit together, have coffee, read the newspaper, have breakfast, make lunch together, play carom, watch any movie on TV, or finish any work outside, and make dinner in the evening, and finish our early dinner. The early dinner resulted in a good night's sleep and a proper appetite for a right breakfast in the morning, and a proper cycle follows everyday.

Last evening, my mother had made Rava upma, a dish generally disliked by people. it was amazing, i had it plain without any condiment.

Today morning i woke up and went rushing into the kitchen after exercise to check out what was ready for a yummy breakfast. "come here. i would like u to have your breakfast in front of me" said my mother. should have understood what it meant. vermicelli upma was made today. couldnt have anything more than a teaspoon. i added some coconut chutney that was made. still couldnt eaet it, then added some curd, still couldnt have it, then added some mango pickle, still couldnt eat it. added some crushed papad to let it cross my tongue and get into the gut.(the upma was made by the cook who returned back after his holiday)

these ten days, i never touched papads. we never had junk, we consumed least of carbohydrates. today eating the first serving of rice was like a challenge. i took about half an hour to finish that. Then i realised that the ones who had a true vacation was me and mom than the cook. believe me it was like hellen keller's desire to see atleast for three days in her life. we had made food of different kinds, different cuisines, and today, back to square one, it was like getting into a sanyasi's life, mixing everything in the plate and trying our best to let it in. the sanyasis became sansaaris and sanyaasis again....

after the so called lunch, we were searching for some junk to eat, which we never even thought of in these 10 days

SONG OF THE SEA

Ever wondered how the sea could sing, spit out fire, water and throw light all over? if u think that such things could happen only in dreams, then the SONG OF THE SEA in sentosa island would prove u to be wrong, and show its existence in reality. In the beach of sentosa island, where you can see the Indonesian port at a distance, this magnum opus "happens" in the vicinity.
this concept had been developing for good since ages. when i went there as little kid, it was just a musical fountain, then when my mother had been there, it was a laser show. and now it is the advanced, refined SONG OF THE SEA. it costed me 6$, and the show was worth every penny i paid.
the story was of waking up the elements of nature to wake up a village to wake up a beautiful princess. the songs woke up the water, the fire, and light and beauty of people.
it was a grand show with lots of light, fire music and water. it was a realistic fantasy, a dream of the waking stage, a moment to cherish, an event to have the eyes wide open and not let a moment to blink. half an hour of the show continued throughout the trip and remains still today.
when my mom had visited it last winter, she had seen the laser show and brought it home for me. when i saw the song of the sea, it was totally different and i dint want to see it through the camera.
by clicking the above link, u can see it in youtube. this is just a glimpse. it is meant to be seen direct and live. u wont get the actual feel by seeing the video though. if u ve not been to Singapore, go to see this and the boat ride. if u ve missed this out, go again and see it.

god bless Singapore for all the surprises&wonders it gives to the world of tourism and entertainment.

ROWDY DARLING

its time i wrote about the sweetheart for whom i was staying awake all night to wish her on her birthday. in that blog, i was kinda complaining about her not answering my call. but here comes a blog to tell how chweet and adorable she is to me.

well here begins my story with this sweetheart shalini reddy.
i was into st andrews high school, secunderabad from playschool. but there was a senior and main branch in bowenpally where i studied from class 5. in class 7 i met this girl whose class teacher was my aunt Mrs. Umaa Rajamani. i used to go my aunt's class almost everyday during the breaks. at that time, i met this girl, she was a boss of the class. i kept a distance from her at that time.
then we happened to bump into each other during high school. in class 10 we were both put in the same class. by that time, my aunt had retired. so our topic of discussion was mainly about my aunt for a while. we were in a group of the most demented set of folks. so we both got together to talk other things than my aunt. we then sat close to each other. i observed her and understood that she is a bold rowdy darling to the people. we were the two dynamic people fo our class. we had a boring teacher later...
but most of the times say 99.89% we used to fight..
one instance which kept us silent towards each other till farewell was this one:
we were all working for a class magazine. i was writing many articles for it and our teacher asked me and shalini to write an article together. i still remember it so vivid it was an article on time. i started, she thought of continuing, when she was concentrating on her thoughts keeping her eyes closed to get into the mood to give a good one, i had already written one in a flow and submitted it to the teacher. that really pissed her. the teacher was fine with it. my ego at that time did not permit me to tell that we did it. i endorsed and told her that it was solely done by me. that was itttt... we dint talk to each other till farewell. the previous day of farewell where we were given lamps to carry till our class from the AV room, we all broke into tears and thats when we broke our silence. we were just ok in the farewell also. but later thinking of all the funny things and nice memories we had together, we missed each other during our inter first year.
i had changed my house. she had the new address in her slam book. she was not sure about my phone number. she wrote me a letter without her address for me to reply.. all that day i was calling up almost everyone from school to get her phone number. the phone number i gave in her slam book was same. but her's had changed. i did not get her number at all. then i digged out my slam book and got her address... i had written a letter of 3 pages that was the second letter i had ever written. i sent this letter somewhere in january and it reached her in january...(but now i send letters out of state and it reaches in 3 days). both of us were in corporate colleges. we could never meet but we always used to yap over the phone. we finally made it after our inter first year exams. shalini, aunty, amma and myself went to rang de basanti. there were interesting things that happened that day. i had organized an alumni meet that day with a few more friends. yapping over the phone, and meeting occasionally, we became really good friends. anytime in life, i d give maximum priority to her. there is nothing i hide from her. shes made of a unique magic, and i always cherish the time i spend with her.
i wish that she has all her dreams fulfilled. both of us have dreams of settling abroad. whoever goes first, will take the other along.
we ve not written each other testimonials to describe to anyone how we like each other. but we believe that theres something more that testifying to the world.
i was a stubborn girl, which i realized after being her friend. and that habit now continues only with mom and shalini. she so fine with it as long as i dont extend it to be stubborn with anyne else. she hates watching movies with me, we ve seen only one movie till date, and her reason is that 3 hours in the cinema theatre is a sheer waste of time, and we can yap LOTS during that precious time.
i d forgotten her birthday once, but shes never forgotten mine. shes always the first one to wish me. she has a special place even in my family, for i ve made sure that my family members know how much shalini means to me. she is another mother, a sister, and needless to say, my best friend. shes also given me a comfort zone with her family. i dont know if we would have been so close if we were sisters. pal theres lots more to come about u&me. may u get all the best of happiness and joy, loads of love forever.
Amritha

THE IMPRESSIVELY TALKATIVE

I once started a thread in OI about ragging. That time, there was a girl who posted her views that impressed me. Then we bumped into CR agan that day. I moved out soon after s few posts @everyone there.

After a really long time, shiva started a thread in FC on chocolates. There was a girl who posted depressively on the topic. I went up to her and asked her why talking about chocolates depressed her at that moment. It was nothing serious but for the fact that chocolates were not available at reach. We had this discussion by sending a few scraps back and forth, and hence added each other as friends. Then we ransacked each other’s profile and found all things between us to be common. Interesting isn’t it?

The next day in college was pretty boring, so boring that I dint want to do anything interesting. I resorted to the all time useless thing of being online. That’s when I even signed into gtalk. And she just signed in. wanting to see her face clearly in the dp, I pinged her asking her about her day. I was actually not at all in the mood to talk. She gave me an essay as a reply… that woke me up from my slumbered position in my seat. I then started talking with all enthusiasm.

From that day onwards, I’ve been a proud recipient of her essays. She has tapped the talkative habit in me, and I have become successfully talkative again. Thanks Nandhini. Now, I talk sense and nonsense happily with her. I've also started writing letters to her whenever the computer or internet caused problem to us. The last letter I wrote was 30 pages long. Yes she is the girl I mentioned in my previous blogs.
theres one more thing.. after a really long time, i went back to my thread which was sunk pages behind to see the girl whom i missed to add. lo! it was nandhini. thats when we realised that we had actually bumped into each other but were hesitant to become pals.

For the ones who cant access my testimonial written for her, here it is:

nandhini to me:

part1
amritha aka amzu!
where do i start? first of all, she's a real chamathu ponnu. she's a mix of being conservative n thinking like a teen-of-today. she's got a bit of both worlds, I'd say! :D
here's one person who can talk for hours together without batting an eyelid with me! :D almost every single time, either of us have to leave cos of one thing or the other thus leaving our conversation incomplete. :P amzu is so full of life n zest. i can go talking about the smallest n least significant of things with her. she's a patient listener, who'll sort out things for me n help out. :) trust me, she'll make a loyal friend once you've got her trust!
one thing about her is that she takes her life very positively. And her take on life is full of optimism. she's really straight forward n there's no need to be uncomfortable talking about ANY damn thing with her. she's really dedicated with whatever she does n that's one thing i admire in her.
be the same for a long time to come amzu. you're amazing! :)
cheers!

part2,3&4:
it's time i wrote LOTS about this chutti ponnu for the world to know. :D
well, to start off with, we got acquainted thru FC! i think it's one of the most urupdiyaana kariyams that FC has ever done. :P hehe.
Now, about her: do you know that she has such a BIIIGGGG mouth that hardly closes? :D she yaps on the phone. she yaps away on IM. and now, she's found herself another outlet in the form of a blog. way to go, amz! :)
one of my proudest accomplishments(till date) is that I've changed her to the extent of sending me long scraps, letters and IMs.
it's very hard to put in words the amount of closeness we share and probably i shudda bumped into her a lot earlier than this. anyway, it's better late than never.
She's rekindled the letter writing habit in me and I'm quite glad she did.
we both love the rains. though i prefer enjoying it indoors. :P I've always been comfortable talking about anything and everything with amzu! :) infact, I'm sure she wont raise an eyebrow if i talked about the most part 2:
insignificant thing on the face of this earth. :D actually, she might get interested and join me if i ever bring up that kinda topic. hehe. that's how we are. unreasonably insane, and very proud about that.
ahh! how can i forget? she LOVES chocolates and cold coffee. and did i tell you? she is an ace cook. one look at chef amritha's preparations makes me feel hungry and my mouth water! :) keep up the good job, amz! i really wish I'd dropped into her place when i was in secunderabad during sem hols. :( i spent one whole day in the secbd. station waiting for the connecting train to chennai, when i could've easily gone n spent time with her. wwaaa! too bad. i thought you were in hyderabad di!
anyway, I'll definitely be there someday. :)
She has a wiiiide taste as far as it's music. evidence: her letters. :D and you must see all the adorable smileys that add life to everything she mentions! :)
she's someone who's deeply involved in everything around her. she's pretty popular in college, thanks part 3:
to all the extra currics she does. she's focussed with her goals & her determination is something extraordinary. amzu is the kind of person who sees a lesson in every failure and success in life. she's outright open to her friends and I've never needed to be artificial even for a moment with her.
she is forever bubbling with enthu and her love for life will never cease. i can say this confidently cos i know! :)
hey sweetie, it's been real pleasure knowing you. i hope you get the best of everything in life. I'm always there no matter what!
hoping we're friends for a long, LONG time to come! :)
love and hugs,
nandhini

Ps: i still haven't fogiven you for that 30 pgs essay. :D your punishment is that you'll get an even bigger essay in return asap.

testimonials i wrote to nandhini:
1:
BUMP to the testimonial column of nandynandhini.
well, this is a an attempt to make a difference in this column by actually wrting what has to be here
where do i start? well, its indeed a real pleasure to have a friend who can talk talk and talk, and make u talk talk talk, and not let u get bored. god iv e never spoken this much to anyone online! theres always lots left untold and unheared at the end of every chat; and this will always be so even if we both would be talking for say for 32 hours continuously.
i m really happy to have a nice friend like u

2:part 2 of the testimonial for a friend who re-brought the talkative me.
shes kind, shes sweet ellam are the compliments already given by people in their testimonials. but i am supposed to say something more. so to say something more, shes impressively talkative not only in IM, LMS (not SMS) and scraps, shes also good at being impressively talkative in writing letters. she writes good musical letters. she ll go on beautifully talking about things that are happening, news, or just general vetti talks.
she has made me talkative to the extent that i went on to replying her letter in about 30 full pages(i know it is absolutely rude of me to write such a big one considering that she d be as jobless/vetti to read it).
Oh yeah i m proud of being talkative like this. thankyou dear.
besides this she has been secretly, and indirectly a good inspirer to me. she is very frank about what she is, what she thinks, and that is the BEST thing that i admire in her. cont... besides this, a siddharth fan like me, a chocoholic like me, a bugs bunny lover like me.
so on and so forth. oh yeah another common thing, both of us like to use the record book pages for anything and everything but for academic matter to write on
well.. one more important thing.. i am not NOT vetti now. i m amidst a busy thing actually. but i ve taken time to write a testimonial for this adorable girl who speaks so well that i almost got over the procrastinating habit in me. You ll definitely have all the things that u want under and above the sky, LOVE
Amritha

sheeshhhh... i ve never written anything sooo long for anyone. by reading till here you would have understood that how she has tapped the talkative in me.. way to go gal.. all the best.. luv ya

shalini's birthday

i ve never stayed up this long.. and more so being online so late..until it some intrestingly useless thread in OI.
i ve written these recipes all at one shot trying to keep myself awake to wish shalini.
from 10 o clock, i was participating in vetti threads, studying online in wiki, listening to music, talking to my mom, and scrapping friends.
this reminds me of the year when i was in inter.
i had forgotten to wish her since i was in narayana junior college. one hell of a place i swear.
i remembered it one week later. my mother patched up for me knowing what happened.
then when i came to degree college, i went to her house as a surprise in the morning with a cake and ran to college immediately coz it was also nagarjuna's birthday.
this year she is yet to recieve my call. i ve been trying since 15 minutes. it is engaged
i yaam great. i ve written all this with the left hand...

besan ka laddoo

this is dedicated to hariniand shrimathy akka and many more who have liked the besan ka laddoo that i make. this is one of my favourite desserts. there are tow ways of making it one is the traditional the other is my way. my way is the one where i use 1/4th the ghee used in the traditional version of the laddoo.
to make about 12 laddoos, you will need:
150 gms besan.
4 tbsps ghee
50gms sugar
almonds and cashew to garnish

procedure:
in a hot frying pan roast the besan till it gives out its unique aroma. it ll be almost golden colour by then. this will take about 5 minutes if cooked on high. now mix it with ghee and half the chopped dry fruits. remove from flame and add the crystal sugar. in this dessert, you should not use powdered sugar. the crystal sugar gives a crunchy taste. now shape them into balls and serve with the rest of the dry fruits or with foil. if u find the ghee too less to bring these to shape, add some melted ghee to shape them.

KALYAANA SAPADU-The wedding feast

I had once been to a wedding where there were different counters for different cuisines. This is a common thing in the present generation though. There were men sitting at wearing turbans at the chat counter serving chat. Believe me, invariably in all the weddings, the pani puri is a sure flop. But in this reception, the caterer had appointed servers of all the counters with the dresses that match the cuisine they served, for the Chinese section, there were people with chingy eyes. And all the counters had a lavish background setup. The whole ambience was an impressive waste of money. Why do I say this? Because there were barely 200 people to attend the reception.
My mom had once read out an article from mangayar malar,a tamil magazine that in some wedding apparently there was a “PAPPU MAMMU STALL” that served food for infants and kids. I then happened to attend another wedding where they had a stall serving popcorns and cotton candies and stuff like that for toddlers and kids. I then happened to encounter a hot discussion among the elders with my mother also participating in it, and it kindled in me a silly, weird and whacky idea.
This discussion happened in my cousin’s wedding where the elders were discussing about their pre and post lunch medicines, and sharing some with the people who dint carry theirs’. Their talk included their reasons for starting to have those medicines, and how their health gets affected on having a wedding feast. Each of them had separate medicines of different potencies for different problems. This sure didn’t impress me. Because whenever elders gather, they keep talking about supplements, or medicines or restrictions.
After this discussion, is when I began to think of a new stall. I was first thinking of a new display beside the salad –platter section. And then I thought of a stall with a doctor wearing a lab coat, giving away medicines. (Got to get professional in this counter you see.)like how the pappu mammu stall impressed the kids, the doctor stall would impress these elders, by giving away medicines for BP, diabetes, allergy, cholesterol, so that you don’t actually start supplying oil in retail for what would have accumulated in the “feast”.
Believe me; this thing will surely come sometime soon. In someone’s wedding or the other. I will definitely not have this kind of pomp in my wedding which is a really long way to go from now.
All certain done, none of the caterers care to cook well using les oil, ghee, unnecessary added flavors /colors. We were having breakfast together in my cousin’s wedding before the muhurtham, and the guy served us something after idlis. It was hot, oily, and looked exactly like molaga podi (a condiment had mixed in oil with idlis.) wondering what it was, suspiciously I tasted it singly. It was not oil, but was ghee; not molaga podi, but almond halwa!!!! The guy had added red-orange colour to it that made it look exactly like molaga podi. After everyone had ruined their taste buds of having idli with halwa, another man comes serving the actual molaga podi.
It counts on how you serve food. My mom always tells me that serving is an art.

WHAT I AM MADE OF

A ridlle, a puzzle, a waste of time is what people feel when they've got to know about themselves. but when it comes to me its a billion dollar discussion
An ordinary teenager with extra ordinary thinking. And an immense love for the way i am. i am a mixed bag.
i am a biotechnology student, a fun lover, an artist, a chef, and an immense lover of snow, rain, mountains, nature, thrills, adventures and traveling.
i play quite a few games, sing well, play the veena, dance, and drive the car at high speed.
i love to cook, , eat desserts, surf the net, write down the thoughts in my head, make friends and make people laugh with the good sense of humor that i have. i often change the interiors of my room. and i make my decisions about these things when i am in class. (). i m not bad in drilling holes in the wall using a drilling machine to hang photo frames. and yeah, i love making collages and have a good flair and interest in photography, and gardening. i like learning new languages. i presently know hindi, telugu, english (obviously), tamil, french and german. i m a half boiled when it comes to marathi, gujrati, bengali, malyalam and konkani.
besides living a fun filled life like this i also spend some time in serious occult science. i am a clairvoyant, a tarot card reader, and a Reiki master. i ve done research on many occult things. i am also a practitioner of Silva, and Mana force. i also do crystal healing.
besides this, i am a stubburn girl. and do things that i like, and like the things i am made to do. so i call my life to be great!
