Liberation!!!

Whenever I am out of a situation, I never rationalize it to convince myself that I m out because it was not worth me.
I have now been out of two situations which have something in common that it reminded me of my real self and showed me what I am and what my purpose here is. (I have had n number of disappointments, but by God’s grace I have grown out of it gracefully with dignity)
Now Google, I never expected I will go ahead when I even applied for that job. But I went till the top most level. But I did not get through. I felt bad, I cried- typical of a woman I cried that I am not there.
I will definitely not tell that Google did not deserve me. It is blasphemy if I say that. But what made me happy and convinced me was about the job profile. It was a profile that wouldn’t let me go ahead with my ultimate passion in the best possible way.
Another situation I have recently faced. Well, I cried again. The situation was a thorough contrast of what happened to me with Google. (Believe me the poem I wrote in despair about not getting a job in Google reduced my friend to tears). But deep within my heart in my conscience, I am happy that I have not cried for the same reason. I couldn’t help myself in the situation till I learnt that I have a potential Francisco D’Anconia life. And it is the best type of life one can ever live according to me. I am yet to live that life and see a john galt life. ” What am I trying to get out of life then?” I asked myself. “added trouble, pain and devastation” is what my mind voice told me.
I have kind of a paused a good going Francisco life. But now with the resources that I have with me which I can utilize for the best, I am going to life well. After all the cliché really means itself by saying “Its one life to live!”
If I am to answer a question that I had once asked “what is the greatest thing you learnt from an enemy?” (In the depth of troubles, I forgot that I was the one who at once asked such a bold question)
“From the events, I learn my ultimate purpose of life. And that life hasn’t given up on me. Life is waiting, to be with it the way I want- Like Francisco of Atlas Shrugged.”

French Cuisine of yuvamahotsav 2008

Here is this youth festival of 2008- The YUVAMAHOTSAV. It was surely better than last year to me. A lot of good this happened, and I am so very happy for it. I pushed the folks of my class into various activites to participate, and they were happy for it. Now here is what happened to the activity that I participated.

There were about 30 events this year. I had participated in quite a few. But I got a good deal of appreciation for the French cuisine and group dance. I was to make a really yummy dish for the French cuisine, something that one cant actually imagine (this is absolutely unique of me) that dish got unduly cancelled at the last moment. So I went to my friendwith this problem. He searched me a nice link for the competition which was advanced by a day. I then also rushed to madhushree iyer, a girl who knew better French than me to translate it. At about 8.30 in the night, I went out, bought the ingredients, and made the chocolate mousse by 10 pm. Fortunately I had the cup in which traditional French desserts are served. Indians will look down at it calling it the irani hotel chai cup.
Fortunately it turned out well in the morning when I woke up.
In the competition when I was allotted my table, I realized that I did not bring any table cloth or anything. My partner rupa had come by then making a fair copy of the recipe. She then took out a small bandhni red colored hanky that she brought to wipe out mehendi, and laid it on the table. I was so very scared how I would manage my way through. Because I dint have a proper look at the French version of the recipe. There were people who had their dish garnished so pretty. But mine didn’t ask for more garnish (strawberry, chocolate, custard, what not). The main part is that one table before me, and one table after me had made chocolate mousse. I stood there with absolutely no expectations. By the time the judge was two tables away, I observed that the participants were doing their explanation in English. And Lo! This is my day! I was happy and sure that I can do well. The previous participant had claimed it to be a vegetarian chocolate mousse (so was mine). Then they said they added gelatin, which is not vegetarian (point was noted). Then the judges came to my table. I told them about my dish, by the time they were at my table, I heard one of the judges say that she makes chocolate mousse often. I explained the way I made it. I also told them about me adding a flavor of coffee in it to give it my characteristic professional touch. The judges were highly calorie conscious. They had limited servings at each table. When the judge took his spoon, I gave him the calorific value that took him back. He took a smaller serving. Once he had it, he took a bigger second serve. So did the other judge.
Then once the judgment was done, my friends came over to taste it. Everyone liked it. One of them wanted it every weekend! :P
And when me and my partner were walking away to the other competitions, our friends, who were the volunteers, secretly told us that we won. And we did!
All the while i also had the support of another friend Animish Raje. Thanks Krishnan,
Animish, Madhushree, and Rupa

ONE MINUTE MANAGER

I read the One Minute Manager last week. oh yes, i only read fiction or non fiction books in the college library. its very rare for one to find me reading books on biochemistry or biotechnology. (chemistry i am well equipped with books at home). It was a good read. I had in fact read this after reading who moved my cheese by the same author.

something that influenced me or rather struck me really well, is his first key to success. It talked about making one minute goals. I've prepared so many goals till date, and hit the bulls eye not very often. I started wondering about it after reading the book. It then reminded me of the chattery me.
I am a person who talks talks talks and talks. so writing things short was a problem. i needed to explain things out clearly.
I was also reminded of a comment that I had got for my previous blog, that it was too long that one could lose patience no matter how interesting it might seem. I believed it because i felt the same when i read really long posts in forums or other blogs. i later realized that THE ONE MINUTE MANAGER book primarily fascinated me because it was not lengthy. i started comparing it with the other non fiction books that I've read. And i found out that the books i vividly remember reading, or rather enjoyed reading were the ones which were written short and sweet.

i started writing things really short, then i realised it was very simple and easy. I could write summaries short and sweet. The last summary i had written was for 7 lines and it was thoroughly sane and explanatory.

Now i hope i become a O.Henry in the making. (too much... i know...)

A NEW ROLE TO PLAY

aaaawww!!!!! yes it hurts when i pinch myself. Yes it hurts. I am alive OK. I've escaped from being blasted by a bomb.

Today in the morning, I finished my prayer though my mom was yelling at me that I was getting late for the zero hour french class. I finished the prayer session and sat into the car and hit my head to the door. My mom then decided to drop me and come back. She was explaining about not being scared of life or death. Where the trend is usually that I would be made to hear a lecture on time management and that I should have got ready early. She dropped me as I ran down the ramp to the IT block to the french class, and I looked up to see my friend gazing out of the window evident that mam was not in the class. I then ran back and told mom that I was not late. "oh well, tell her hi for me" she said and drove back home. Mam was a bit late today. We finished the class and when was about to tell us au revoir, a lecturer came telling us to assemble. Generally we miss the assembly whenever we have a french class.
Skeptically we all gathered in the assembly. sheesh! I've never seen the whole college gather at one time like this after the Yuvamahotsav. Sans the ones who were on leave, the ones who were in the library, class, canteen and other hang out spots gathered and it was a huge crowd.
At the space int he commerce block where we were gathered, there were people thinking that the gathering was to declare a holiday. some thought that it might be a day where some staff would retire, and some people came up saying that it was a bomb.Wooo!!! I am excited now. We were talking crazy things about the bomb getting exploded there. By then we were shoo ed away to the ground near the MBA block. In that hurry scurry movement to the MBA block, people confirmed that it WAS a bomb. And now, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont want to die. my fear of dying got even worse after seeing the cops and sniffer dogs. Though it was cool to see cops in the college, I was behaving silly.
Some people were scribbling things (crap/ nonsense) as their "will". By then I had called up my mom twice. Once from purnima's cell and once from bharath's cell. My cell is in a pretty bad shape now. I'll fix it sometime soon though. It was tough for mom to contact me to know how the situation there is, and I was moving form one place to another going along with the crowd. The gates were all locked. By then the ones who were bunking and were on leave were excited to come in. But nope they were not allowed. In that crowd, I found another girl talking to her mom about this in Tamil. We were glad to know that both of us are Tamilians. I felt so native and patriotic to speak in my mother tongue in that very complicated hour(need of the hour you see). Then a few lecturers came out
I went up asking them " sir, what if it really blasts?" " we' ll also die with you" they said. That answer was not satisfactory at that moment. Then I found my biotech lecturer come out, then I shouted out "Maaam. mam I am my mother's only child. Why cant they let us out mam?" I am also my mother's only child" she said and drove me away to again join the assembly. My french lecturer who hear this started laughing and called me out to make me stop talking nonsense. She said" I am the only mother to my kids Amritha. Stop talking such things(ROTFLMAO at the moment)" "mam, today morning my mother asked me to tell you hi" "oh tell her a hi from my side too""mam i would like to go and tell her hi again mam" "it must be some silly prank by someone. Dont go by it. Be calm and don't show your weakness" "a coup de théâtre you say madame?" " voila!" she laughed and went away. Again I felt happy to talk to her in french. And I felt I was properly exercising my linguist talent at that time talking to different people in different languages.

Then we all assembled in single defined lines. A student who had observed something suspicious while coming to assemble was asked to repeat the information to the staff again. By then the folks had known that if it would explode, it would explode and they decided to enjoy that moment in mirth. They began taking videos of the scene and started screaming out and whistling out before they die. If the person had placed the bomb, or played the prank saw this, he would regret doing this seeing the way the students sportively took death. It was typically a college scene. If it were a school, there would be children crying real loud. His efforts would have gone in vain the ever calm principle was never seen so baffled and serious ever. He came towards the stage with the cops. He got on the stage and declared a holiday.

The security arranged for us was very organized. The students were made to go in a single file with the lecturers standing as a guard of honor. Till the end of the lane, and the student's vehicles were all inspected. I appreciate they way the management handled the students. I would know if it is really a coup de théâtre or not tomorrow or on Monday.

At every such hour there SHOULD be a silly character. And today, unusually, that role was played by me amidst the hyper, enthusiastic and excited crowd. Its not that I've not seen instances where I've escaped death. i was near Lumbini park when there was the twin blast. I've been in the car when we drove through horrible floods, and in turbulent weathers, and in bad road conditions. I still don't understand what made me behave silly. But I am happy I took the silent initiative to play that role :P . Whatever. It was fun being silly, and playing a new silly role today.

TEN DAYS TO EAT

today i am reminded of hellen keller who wrote an essay "THREE DAYS TO SEE".
that poor lady was who was deprived of the ability to see. she had written about her deepest feelings about the importance of sight.

Today i tell about the importance of taste. I might be a good cook, but all the people of the world irrespective of their ability of cook deserve a good meal. If i have learnt how to cook, I owe the credits to my father who ordered me to make my own food to suit my palate. And why i demanded good food for my palate was because of my cook who made intangible and inedible food.

After navrathri, the couple went out for a vacation to their relative's wedding. For these 10 days, me and my mom took charge of the whole house. I would buy milk, make coffee, we would sit together, have coffee, read the newspaper, have breakfast, make lunch together, play carom, watch any movie on TV, or finish any work outside, and make dinner in the evening, and finish our early dinner. The early dinner resulted in a good night's sleep and a proper appetite for a right breakfast in the morning, and a proper cycle follows everyday.

Last evening, my mother had made Rava upma, a dish generally disliked by people. it was amazing, i had it plain without any condiment.

Today morning i woke up and went rushing into the kitchen after exercise to check out what was ready for a yummy breakfast. "come here. i would like u to have your breakfast in front of me" said my mother. should have understood what it meant. vermicelli upma was made today. couldnt have anything more than a teaspoon. i added some coconut chutney that was made. still couldnt eaet it, then added some curd, still couldnt have it, then added some mango pickle, still couldnt eat it. added some crushed papad to let it cross my tongue and get into the gut.(the upma was made by the cook who returned back after his holiday)

these ten days, i never touched papads. we never had junk, we consumed least of carbohydrates. today eating the first serving of rice was like a challenge. i took about half an hour to finish that. Then i realised that the ones who had a true vacation was me and mom than the cook. believe me it was like hellen keller's desire to see atleast for three days in her life. we had made food of different kinds, different cuisines, and today, back to square one, it was like getting into a sanyasi's life, mixing everything in the plate and trying our best to let it in. the sanyasis became sansaaris and sanyaasis again....

after the so called lunch, we were searching for some junk to eat, which we never even thought of in these 10 days
